Therapeutic Cupping

Therapeutic Cupping

What is therapeutic massage cupping?

Massage Cupping is the combination of massage movements and negative pressure with the use of a suction device on the skin.

How does it work & what should I expect?

A cup is positioned on the area of treatment enabling a vacuum to be created within the cup which acts to draw the skin and underlying tissue into the cup.  The vacuum suction can range from light to heavy dependent upon the body area on which the treatment is undertaken and the nature of the underlying symptoms for which the treatment is undertaken.   This suction when coupled with the massage movements performed by your therapist will produce stimulating (toning) or sedating (draining) effects in the area of skin treated.

What are the benefits of therapeutic cupping?

  • Rapidly facilitates rigid soft tissue release by stretching the tissue from underlying structures

  • Loosening areas of adhesion or restriction

  • Activating muscle spindle reflexes that relax contractile tissue

  • Myofascial release

  • Activates the secretion of synovial fluids to relieve joint stiffness

  • Localisation expansion of tissue, producing s profound vasodilation reaction

  • Raises skin temperature and promotes metabolism within the skin tissue for improved function of sweat and sebaceous glands

  • Flushing capillary beds by draining stagnant blood, toxins and lymph, which facilitates fresh blood and nutrients to the tissue
